The UW Madison’s Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery Building was an education project in Madison, Wisconsin. Completed in 2020, the 72,784 sq. ft. plan had an estimated budget of $36,088,175.

University of Wisconsin Madison’s Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery (MSABD) building brings much-needed modernization to the school’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The new MSABD building provides state-of-the-art teaching capabilities to train the next generation of meat industry leaders with cutting-edge insightfulness and technologies.The new building features modern classroom spaces, including lecture halls, research laboratories, classrooms, teaching laboratories, specialized animal processing spaces such as an abattoir, carcass chilling and cooling facilities, and a meat processing area. The building also features modern offices and conference rooms and houses Bucky’s Varsity Meats retail store (formerly Bucky’s Butchery).In addition, the building houses a USDA-inspected meat and poultry processing facility and a separate Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) processing and laboratory facility for food safety research. These two processing plants are at the core of the research, teaching, and outreach education that will foster the production of wholesome meat products for the consuming public and the economic development of the meat industry. These facilities also allow meat and poultry companies to develop new products and to test pathogen elimination methods.MCC provided estimates at all design levels, including programmatic, conceptual, schematic, design development, and final review.
